Melanie K. Wilday
August 10, 1965 - February 2, 2026 Sharon Springs: Melanie K. Wilday, a longtime resident of Sharon Springs and previously from Ames, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 2, 2026 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital. She was 60.
Born in Cobleskill on August 10, 1965, she’s the daughter of Kay Wilday and the late Richard Wilday. She graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1983 and went on to attend Wells College in Aurora, NY. She received her bachelor’s degree from Wells in 1987, followed by a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1990. She worked at Haviland, Ferguson & Papa law firm in Gloversville and later opened a law office in their home. She also served as a bookkeeper for Sharon Hill Garage. She authored essays and short novels as a personal pursuit and maintained a strong interest in literature. She enjoyed taking walks with her dogs alongside her partner, John. She is survived by her partner of thirty-three years, John Rodden Jr of Sharon Springs; her mother, Kay Wilday of Ames; two sisters, Stephanie Leavitt (John) of Carlisle and Amy Booth (Scott) of Sprakers; a brother, Rick Wilday (Tammy) of Colonie; several nieces and nephews; and a great niece. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, from 12 noon to 2:00 PM at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs.
