William Mayer
December 15, 1948 – June 13, 2026 William (Bill) Mayer, resident of the Town of Sharon, passed away on Saturday June 13th at his home surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of many. Bill was born in Sanford to Kenneth & Rosamond Mayer and raised on the family farm in Deposit. He graduated from Deposit High School in 1967. The Mayer family moved to Cobleskill in 1970 where Bill and his brother Richard worked the Mayer Brothers farm on Barnerville Road until 1984. Bill was employed by Clapper Logging for many years, first working in the woods cutting trees and then driving the log truck until an injury caused his retirement in 2004. Bill married the love of his life in 1986 and moved to Sharon in 1993.
Everybody loved Uncle Bill. He was a member of the Clapper-Matice Pack and the Argusville Hunting Club. Bill was a jokester and the instigator of many antics that he shared with Bruce, his ‘brother from another mother’. Storytelling and telling jokes came naturally to Bill. He enjoyed traditional country music, road trips with his wife, and mentoring young hunters. An avid hunter, Bill was a Life Member of Safari Club International and the Adirondack-Catskill Chapter of SCI. Bill is survived by his wife Lynn, his brother Richard, his sister Margaret, brothers-in-law Roy and Robert, sisters-in-law Jean and Karen, and many nephews and nieces living in NY, NJ, VA, and MO. Burial will be private and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Marathon for a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187, or Blood Cancer United, or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to Bill’s caregivers - Beth, Anne, Robin, and Madeleine – who along with his wife provided round-the-clock care and comfort to Bill so he could remain at home during his final days of life. We’re gonna love you forever. Forever and ever Amen … Arrangements are by Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs. |
