Ryan James Lasky
March 8, 1982 - July 6, 2024 |
Ryan James Lasky was born on March 8, 1982, and departed from this world on July 6, 2024, at the age of 42.
He is survived by his wife Angela, his daughter Dezi, his three sons, Rock, Elijah, and Ryker, his parents, Roger and JoAnn Lasky, his sisters Kim (Patrick) and Heather, and his brother Jesse (Kate). Ryan also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives who cherished him deeply and will profoundly miss him. As we mourn this devastating loss, we reflect on Ryan's profound impact on all our lives. Ryan attended Sharon Springs School as a young boy, where he was adored for his compassionate Nature often leading to tears and remembered for his willingness to befriend anyone in need. It was here that Ryan formed lifelong friendships, remaining like brothers with a small group. He continued his education at SUNY Potsdam and graduated from SUNY Albany before marrying Angela in 2004. Together, they established their home in Sharon Springs, NY, where they lovingly raised their four remarkable children. Ryan dedicated himself to his career at GE in Schenectady since 2007, taking great pride in providing for his family. Beginning with his parents and siblings he grew up with strong roots, and deep bonds as a protector and champion of each of them. Their comradery and closeness was something that stood the test of time, and offered Ryan a blueprint for the life he would build. Ryan took care of everyone in his life. He cared deeply and dutifully for his wife, Angela, being the one to ground her. He never missed an opportunity to greet her with a “hey pretty lady” or “good morning my love”. Always making her coffee, getting her vapes, and surprising her with gifts, which was sometimes his middle finger pulled from a bag. For his daughter, Dezi, he was a protective, caring father who taught her how to be independent, courageous and know her worth. For his son Rock, he was a bestie at a Kesha concert, for Elijah the buddy at a basketball game, and for Ryker shaving both their heads so they could be twins. For many nieces and nephews, he was a second father. For his community he was one who always contributed, and even made sure that each species of birds had their preferred bird seed in the feeders throughout his property. Ryan’s caretaking knew no bounds. Ryan was known for his strong, opinionated, and lively personality. To love him meant benefiting from his shield of protection while enduring his colorful commentary and endless complaints. Ryan loved deeply and defended passionately. Though we cannot fathom a world without our anchor, he has imparted invaluable lessons of strength and compassion to all who knew him. By striving to emulate his example and helping those in need, we can honor Ryan's memory and continue his legacy of making the world a better place. In respect of his family's privacy during this difficult time, no formal service will be held. Details regarding a memorial gathering will be shared in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Ryan's family through the following link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/honoring-ryan-lasky-support-his-family |

Dr. Seth E. Many
Dec. 1, 1939 - February 10, 2024 |
Dr. Seth E. Many died February 10, 2024 at his home in Sharon Springs, NY after a long dance with Parkinson’s dementia. He was 84 years old.
Seth was born Dec. 1, 1939 in Bayonne, New Jersey the youngest son of Robert H. Many, Jr. and Florence Kaplan Many. He was raised in rural Chester-Mendham Township, New Jersey in the cottage designed and built by his engineer father and surrounded by books from his librarian mother. Seth was an exceptional student, athlete, dancer, and musician who grew up, alongside his brothers Francis and Peter, in a household that valued competition, achievement, ethics, and self-discipline. He was tall and handsome, intimidating, entertaining, challenging and oh so smart. He graduated top of his class (1958) and went on to study philosophy at Swarthmore College (1962). He continued on to medical school at the University of Pennsylvania with subsequent residencies in Albany and Syracuse, NY, specializing in psychiatry. A pacifist and conscientious objector, Seth was a hippy and non-conformist active in the anti-war protests and communal living experiments of the 1960s. By the mid-1970s, he landed in Sharon Springs, NY, the village that would become his home of 50 years, and his greatest source of contentment. He continued to be an adventure seeker, always up for a road trip and full of wanderlust, but he had a place to come home. The New Brighton, his ramshackle Victorian boarding house full of antique treasures, derelict outbuildings, and perfectly manicured lawn. He brought up two daughters, Soren and Cassandra, in Sharon Springs and was well known in the community for school budget battles, garage-saling, banging away loudly on his piano, providing high school scholarships, playing volleyball and basketball, bringing court cases, nude lawn mowing, illegal parking and a zillion other eccentricities that were a source of amusement, bemusement, and consternation. For all of you who remember Seth in his later years, jogging backwards, counting loudly in Korean, picking up garbage along Route 20, please know that these were his attempts to keep his mind and body intact. For all of you who brought him home after finding him confused at the Dollar General, shoveled his walk in the winter, fixed his lawnmower when he no longer could, or spent time whistling at birds with him, please know that while your efforts may have gone unremarked in the moment, they did not go unnoticed. Your kindness has been deeply felt and appreciated by his family. Seth is survived by his daughters, Soren (Todd), Cassandra, and grandson Neil, his former partners, Susan and Hilary, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. A family remembrance and private inurnment will be held at a later date. Condolence cards for his family may be sent to his daughter’s home in Riverside, IL. For those of you who would like to honor Seth’s memory, please consider making a contribution to or attending the Dance Flurry in Saratoga. The Flurry was the highlight of Seth’s year and he attended until he could no longer tie his dancing shoes. https://www.flurryfestival.org/support/join-donate/ |
