Gabrielle Sabler
Cherry Valley- Gabrielle Sabler, a resident of Cherry Valley and a student at SUNY Cobleskill, died accidentally April 2, 2015 at her residence. She was 20.
Born in Staten Island on July 12, 1994, she was the daughter of Frank and Doris (Bialt) Sabler.
Gabrielle was a 2012 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and was currently enrolled in the computer information systems curriculum at SUNY Cobleskill. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Cherry Valley. Her best friend, Ashley, with whom she did everything, was also lost in the fire.
Survivors besides her parents include three brothers, Frank, Benjamin, and Alexander; two sisters, Elizabeth and Christine; a maternal grandmother, Jeanne Lagasse; two aunts, Jeannine and Celina Bialt; and four uncles, Bernard, Marcel and Alfred Bialt and Steven Sabler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Friday April 10, at the First Presbyterian Church, Alden Street, Cherry Valley, Father John Roos will preside. Repast will follow the service at Kateri Hall, 13 Church Street, Cherry Valley. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm Thursday, April 9, at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs.

Cherry Valley- Anthony Sabler, a resident of Cherry Valley and an eighth grade student at Sharon Springs Central School, died accidentally April 2, 2015 at his residence. He was 13.
Born in Staten Island on October 6, 2001, he was the son of Frank and Doris (Bialt) Sabler.
Anthony was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Cherry Valley. He enjoyed spending time with his friends playing video games, soccer, basketball, and volunteering at the church. His father and he were best friends and they did everything together. Anthony was very close to Aunt Jeannine, she was his favorite.
Survivors besides his parents include three brothers, Frank, Benjamin, and Alexander; two sisters, Elizabeth and Christine; a maternal grandmother, Jeanne Lagasse; two aunts, Celina and Jeannine Bialt; and four uncles, Bernard, Marcel, and Alfred Bialt and Steven Sabler.

Roberta J. Adair
Sharon Springs- Roberta J. Adair, a longtime resident of Sharon Springs and most recently of the St. Johnsville Nursing Center since October 2014, died March 9, 2015 at the center after a long illness. She was 64.
Born in Cooperstown on September 20, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Robert Hotaling and Jeanne De Braccio.
She was a 1968 graduate of Shenendehowa Central School and a longtime legal secretary for attorney James Bryant in Schoharie, retiring due to illness.
Survivors include her husband of nineteen years, Richard Adair; three sons; Laverne Winnie Jr. of Remsen, Jason Winnie of McKinney, TX and Zack Winnie of Cobleskill; two daughters, Rebecca Bombardier of Cobleskill and Kristal Masse of Sharon Springs; two sisters, Carmella Varnum and Suzanne Palmatier, both of Middleburgh; and ten grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in Sharon Cemetery.

Duane Willoughby
Florida-Duane Willoughby, a longtime resident of Pattersonville Road in the town of Florida and previously of Sharon Springs, died Sunday January 18, 2015 at his residence. He was 55.
Duane was born January 9, 1960 and was the son of the late Philip Willoughby and Muriel Beroff.
He was a graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and a longtime employee
for Host Marriot Services Corporation in Pattersonville; retiring a while ago due to illness.
Survivors include two sons; Duane Willoughby Jr. of Sharon Springs and Craig Miller of Sprakers; a daughter, Cari Hattat of Fonda; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 31, at Lappeus Funeral Home, 113 Park Street, Sharon Springs.
Margaret C. Doig
Sharon Springs-Margaret C. Doig, a resident of the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady since 2012 and previously of Sharon Springs, died Monday December 29, 2014 at the center. She was 90.
Born in Burlington, Vermont on June 3, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Burnham Colby and Lila Townsend.
Peg graduated from the former Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and then earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Skidmore College. She would later earn a master’s degree from SUNY Oneonta. Peg was a longtime music teacher in both the Sharon Springs Central School district and in the Cherry Valley Central School district, retiring in 1981. While at Sharon Springs, she was active in the booster club and enjoyed attending all the sporting events at the school.
Peg was a member of the United Methodist Church and was involved with the United Methodist Women and served as choir director at the church for 54 years. Additionally, she served as den mother for the local cub scouts - Troop 17; was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #1269 and she gave private piano lessons.
Survivors include two sons; James (Rita) Doig of Norwich, and Robert (Diane) Doig of Ballston Spa; and three grandsons, Alexander Doig of Teaneck, NJ, Scott Doig of Watervliet, and Dustin Budge of Albany.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Al Doig in 2006, and her brother, Robert Colby.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway Community for the years of care provided to Peg.
A service will be held 10:30am Saturday at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Memory’s Gardens, Colonie. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Friday at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs.

Betty Ryder
Sharon Springs-Betty Ryder, who lived most of her life in Sharon Springs, died Wednesday November 5, 2014 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Center. She was 89.
Born in Carlisle on May 14, 1925, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy Mackey and Iva Briggs.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse in the Amsterdam area for many years. Then in 1970, she converted her residence in Sharon Springs into the Maples Adult Home, now known as Marchand Manor. She owned and operated the Maples until retiring in 1990.
In 1995, she relocated to Summerfield, Florida (Ocala Metro), but returned to Sharon Springs in 2009 and then to the nursing center in 2011.
Betty was an original member of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad and she answered and dispatched calls both for the rescue squad and the fire department from an office inside her business. Also, she was a longtime member of Rebekah Lodge #850.
Survivors include a son, William Barbic of Sharon Springs; two daughters, Alice Barbic of Henry, Indiana, and Joanne Duncan of Lady Lake, FL; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alton Ryder, in February 1979.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am Monday, November 10, at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00am prior to the service. Inurnment will follow in the Old Stone Fort Cemetery, Schoharie.

Rita Mary Christman, 81, entered into her eternal journey of peace on Tuesday October 21, 2014, at home in the arms of her children. Rita was born on October 26, 1932 in Cooperstown, the daughter of the late Clifford M. Crapser and Norma K. Jansson. She resided most of her life in Schoharie County on the family farm in Gardnersville.
After graduating from Cobleskill Central High School in 1950, she received her registered nurse diploma in 1953 from Union University School of Nursing in Albany. Later, she continued her education at SUNY Oneonta and in 1972 received her primary care nurse practitioner certificate from Albany Medical College. Her professional nursing career started in private duty nursing and at Visiting Nurse Association of Albany. For ten years, she worked at Cobleskill Central High School both as a school nurse and as an advisor to the Future Nurses Club. Rita then joined the former Cobleskill Medical Group, first as a registered nurse and later as a primary care nurse practitioner. She retired from Bassett Healthcare in Cobleskill in 1996 after a long career of providing care to thousands of pediatric and adult patients in the community.
In retirement, Rita continued her father's interest in genealogy. She spent many days researching her own extended family and other Schoharie County families. Rita would visit cemeteries all over the county in order to reconstruct, record and verify genealogical lines. Also, she served as town of Seward co-historian for several years and was an active library research volunteer at the Old Stone Fort in Schoharie. Rita enjoyed time with research colleagues and visitors who shared her passion for history and family lineage. Rita loved farming, knitting, gardening, picking berries and she was known for baking delicious pies.
Survivors include four sons, Clifford Sr. (Brooke) of Tioga, PA; Gustave Jr. (Debi) of Carlisle, and Mark Sr. (Susan) and Carl (Lynae), both of Gardnersville; a daughter, Juliet (William) Cook of Spring City, PA; eleven grandchildren, whom she devoted her love and life to, Clifford Jr., Gavin, Gustave III (Allison), Ashley, Mark Jr., Kali, John, Levi, Roger, Katherina (Clayton) Cook Brewer and Elissa Cook; and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Gustave Christman Sr., in May 2005.
A private family service and internment will be held at Slate Hill Cemetery, town of Sharon.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all those who cared for her at M.I. Bassett Hospital Cancer Center and Catskill Area Hospice.

Howard Gordon “Gus” Osterhoudt passed away unexpectedly at MI Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown on August 20th, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Howard was born on April 8, 1926, son of Mary Catherine Hopkins Osterhoudt and Maurice Osterhoudt of Cooperstown, NY.
Howard left high school early to join his four brothers in fighting for their country with the Army-Air Corps. When he returned to Cooperstown High School to complete his studies, he met his future wife, Nola E. Wedderspoon. They both attended N.Y.S. Institute of Agriculture (now SUNY Cobleskill), where Howard studied animal husbandry. They were married on May 3, 1952, and returned to military life with the Air Force stationed in San Antonio, Texas during the Korean Conflict.
After leaving the military, Howard attended the Television Workshop of New York, where he trained to work as a cameraman in TV and film. As a student, he earned a special commendation for outstanding and distinguished achievement. Howard and Nola settled in Sharon Springs in 1955. He worked for the Village Department of Public Works for 3 years. He was then hired by the US Post Office, where he worked for over 31 years. After retiring from the Post Office, he was hired by Sharon Springs Central School as a bus driver for 10 years. He also was in charge of maintenance of the Central National Bank in Sharon Springs for many years, and later of the Town Court. He was also a handyman for various businesses and Sharon Springs residents for many years.
Howard was active in many local organizations and his church. He was an active member of the Sharon Springs Fire Department for 20 years, President of the Sharon Springs Free Library for 20 years, and an active member of the Sharon Springs American Legion Post for 25 years, serving as Commander for a time. He also served as the President of the Board of Trustees and was a member of the Executive Council for the United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the Sons of Cooperstown organization.
Howard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nola E. Wedderspoon Osterhoudt. He is also survived by their five children: Donna (Bill) Barlow of Sharon Springs; Carol (Guy) Tucker of Bolton, MA; Nadine (Craig) Juliano of Bozeman, MT; Kyle (Thi) Osterhoudt of Honolulu, HI; and Leah (Terrence) Byrons of Washingtonville, NY. His nine surviving grandchildren include Rebecca Barlow Love, Jason Barlow, Reed and Clarissa Tucker, Nicole and Nathan Juliano, and Liam, Case, and Kian Byrons. Two surviving great-grandchildren include Madelyn and Jordan Barlow. He is loved and cherished by each one. He is also survived by one brother, Homer Osterhoudt of Cooperstown.
Howard is predeceased by his brothers Ralph Osterhoudt of Richfield Springs, NY; John Osterhoudt of Westfield, NY; and Lincoln Osterhoudt, who was killed in action in WWI; and his sisters Helen Osterhoudt Baxter of Sharon Springs, NY; and Louise Osterhoudt. He is also predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica Barlow, of Sharon Springs, NY.
Calling hours will be held at the Lappeus Funeral Home, 213 Park Street, Sharon Springs, NY from 6-8PM on August 29, 2014. Funeral services will be held on August 30, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church on Route 20 in Sharon Springs, NY.
Richard W. Atkinson
Sharon Springs - Richard W. Atkinson, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1973 and previously of Manhattan, died Monday August 18, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a brief illness. He was 84.
Richard was a 1958 graduate of Westchester Community College. He went on to work as a mechanic for Town and Country Equipment in New Jersey for many years before coming to Sharon Springs. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert Hughes of Watertown, CT. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Hughes in 2006 and Dorothy Flohr in 1992; and a brother, William Atkinson.
Cremation was at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady. A private graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date in Sharon Cemetery.

Laila Olsen
Sharon Springs- Laila Olsen, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1960 and most recently of the Palatine Nursing Home since January 2013, died Saturday August 9, 2014 at the home.
Born in Fredrikstad, Norway on March 30, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Carl Schwartz and Astrid Andreasen.
Laila graduated from Flushing High School in 1938 and was married to Henning Olsen in 1943. She lived in Suffolk County prior to coming to Sharon Springs in 1960. She had been a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Chapel since 1960.
Survivors include seven sons, Daniel Olsen of Wash, DC; Andy Olsen and John Olsen, both of Sharon Springs, Harry Olsen of Harlam, GA, Roy Olsen of Buffalo, and James Olsen of Melbourne, FL; two daughters, Susan Herman of Port St. John, FL and Gale Olsen of Santa Fe, NM; a sister, Eleanor Kingsley of Smithtown, nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henning, in 1983, and a son, Joe, in 1991.
A service will be held 11:00am Thursday, August 14, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Chapel. Burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Wednesday at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs.

Joseph Smith Jr.
Canajoharie- Joseph Smith Jr., passed away at birth on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown. Survivors include his parents; Felicia Moak and Joseph Smith of Canajoharie; three sisters, Ashley and Sylenah Smith and Jaivah Seelow; maternal grandmother, Sarah Moak of Canajoharie; paternal grandparents, Charmaine Smith of Canajoharie and Ronald Smith of Frankfort; three uncles, Kevin Moshier of Schenectady, Ronald Smith of Canajoharie and Matthew Smith of Mohawk; two aunts, Sierra Vosburgh and Bianca Gee, both of Canajoharie; and several cousins.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am Tuesday, July 22, at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs. Visitation will be 10:30-11:00am prior to the service. Inurnment will follow in Sharon Cemetery.

Viola O’Shell
Ebensburg - Viola O’Shell, 94, formerly of Altoona, St. Augustine and Sharon Springs, NY passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Center in St. Johnsville NY, where she had been a resident since April 2012.
She was born in N. White Plains, NY on November 10, 1919, the daughter of the late John and Marie (Erenholtz) Strilowich.
She was a longtime bookkeeper for various medical offices in the White Plains, NY area.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Kevin P. O’Shell of Sharon Springs, NY.
She was predeceased by her husband, Regis J. O’Shell, on April 29, 1991.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Tuesday, June 24, Holy Name Catholic Church, Ebensburg, PA. Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8:00pm Monday at Matevish and Matevish Funeral Home, 307 N. Center Street, Ebensburg. Local arrangements are by Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs.

Paul Larkin
Sharon Springs- Paul Larkin, a lifelong resident of Sharon Springs, died suddenly Friday, June 20, 2014 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital. He was 59.
Born in Cooperstown on October 23, 1954, he was the son of Edwin W. Larkin and the late Virginia (Haner) Larkin.
Paul was a 1972 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and he earned an associates degree in agricultural business in 1974 from SUNY Cobleskill.
He owned and operated Larkindale Holsteins in Sharon Springs for 31 years. The business was sold in July 2013.
Paul served the town of Sharon on both the town board and the board of assessment review and he was a member of the Schoharie County Holstein association and the county planning commission. Also, he served several terms on the Sharon Springs Central School board of education.
Survivors include his wife Patricia (Keller) Larkin; a son, Lucas Larkin of Sharon Springs; a daughter, Trisha Larkin of Greenville, NC; his father, Edwin; and step-mother, Mary Ann Larkin of Sharon Springs; two sisters, Valerie Becker and Melanie Ray, both of Cobleskill; two brothers, Shane Larkin of Mechanicville and Glenn Larkin of Canajoharie; and a granddaughter, Avery Patricia Bailey of Greenville, NC.
He was predeceased by a sister, Diana Larkin, on March 21, 1979; and his mother, Virginia, on July 9, 1979.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00pm Monday, June 23 and 10:00-12:00pm Tuesday, June 24 at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs. A graveside service will follow the visitation on Tuesday at 12:30 in Slate Hill Cemetery, town of Sharon.

Walter Loveridge
Sharon Springs - Walter Loveridge, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1986 and previously of East Greenbush, died Sunday April 20, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a long illness. He was 75.
Born in Albany on June 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Charles Loveridge and Ruth Hogle.
Walter graduated in 1960 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a bachelor in engineering degree. Early on, he worked for Bausch and Lomb in Rochester and then New York State Water Resources. Water Resources was absorbed into the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in the late 1960’s and Walt remained there until retiring in 1995. Primarily, he worked in the industrial pollution division, first in Rensselaer, then Schenectady, and finally retiring out of the Stamford office.
He also owned and operated a 200 head dairy farm in Sharon Springs, was a mechanic at the former Clinton Avenue Garage in Albany, and he raced stock cars at Lebanon Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Terry (Luther) Loveridge of Sharon Springs; a son, Daniel Loveridge of Clinton; two step-sons; Theodore O’Bryan of Leonardsville (Madison County) and Sean Michael O’Bryan of Wynantskill; a step-daughter, Laura Kellar of Rotterdam; and four grandchildren.
A service will be held 11:00am Thursday, April 24, at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 10:00 - 11 am at the church prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Garrison Cemetery, Harrisville (St. Lawrence County).

Zosia Simmons
Zosia Simmons, a resident of Seward since 1984 and previously of Queens, died suddenly Monday, April 14, 2014 at her residence. She was 85.
Born in Brooklyn on September 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John Maslowski and Valeria Majkszak.
She did secretarial and billing duties for both Pfizer pharmaceutical in Brooklyn and Key Appliance in Amityville before retiring and relocating to Schoharie County.
Zosia loved animals and she even adopted a dog, Annie, from the show Pet Connection on ABC News10. One of her cats, Greyson, who she rescued on a cold winter night a few years ago, was with her when she passed.
Survivors include a daughter, Crystal (Chris) Stone-Rowson of Seward; a son, John Simmons of Glenville; a brother, Walter Maslowski of Staten Island; five grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Simmons, in September 2009; and a son, Michael Simmons in 1976.
Services and inurnment are private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation was at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady.

Richard C. Winslow
Richard C. Winslow, a resident of Cherry Valley since 1998 and previously of New Rochelle (Westchester County) died Monday, March 10, 2014 at his residence after a long illness. He was 67.
Born in New York City on June 5, 1946, he was the son of the late Charles and Ella (Mohrman) Winslow. He attended school both in New York City and Pelham before graduating from Pelham Memorial High School in 1965.
Mr. Winslow was self-employed for many years in the moving and storage business primarily in Westchester County and New York City. While in Cherry Valley, he worked briefly at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Sharon Springs, retiring in 2000 due to illness.
He was an avid hunter and a longtime member of the Sharon Hunt Club. Also, he loved both deep sea fishing and fishing on Long Island Sound whenever he could. Additionally, Richard was a member of the AF&AM Tuckahoe Masonic Lodge #347 and a US Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married in May of 1968, Therese (Thibodeau) Winslow; a son, Christopher (Kim) Winslow of Lincolnton, NC; a sister, Charlene Markum of San Jose; two grandchildren, Aaron and Madison Winslow, both of Lincolnton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Ellen, in 2012.
Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00pm Saturday, March 15, at Lappeus Funeral Home. A graveside service and interment will be held at a later date in Sharon Cemetery.

Della Salisbury
Sharon Springs- Della Salisbury, a longtime resident of Sharon Springs and most recently of Sprakers, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a brief illness. She was 76.
Born in Cobleskill on October 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Warren Roe and Merian Sweet.
Della was a 1957 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and a longtime member of the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. She was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Kennedy and Laurie Scudder, both of Sharon Springs, and Tina Walker of Beacon Falls, CT.; two sons, Morris Salisbury and Lester Higgins, both of Sharon Springs; two sisters, Rose Puglese of Schenectady and Sharon Carmichael of Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Sharon Springs - Frank Saum, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1975 and previously of Brooklyn, died Friday, October 18, 2013 at his residence after a long illness. He was 86.
Born in Brooklyn on June 9, 1927, he was the son the late Frank Saum Sr. and Elizabeth Vaughan.
Frank was a longtime New York State tax agent working out of the Harriman Campus in Albany, retiring in 1989. He was a WWII veteran and during a reenlistment was a military police officer at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sigrund Saum of Sharon Springs; a son, Steven Saum of Staten Island; a daughter, Debra Prezioso of Arizona and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Frank Saum III; and a sister, Elizabeth Randolph.
Private services and inurnment in the columbarium wall at the Gerald B.H.Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Cremation was at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady.

Sharon Springs - LeRoy VanSchaick, a lifelong resident of Sharon Springs, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at Cobleskill Regional Hospital after a short illness. He was 85.
Born in Sharon Springs on December 20, 1927, LeRoy was the son of the late Donald VanSchaick and Gladys Coleman.
LeRoy was a produce manager for 33 years at the former A and P Supermarkets in Cherry Valley and Cobleskill, retiring in 1981. Subsequently, he worked for Lappeus Funeral Home, the former Lynk’s Service Station and the former Pioneer Productions, all in Sharon Springs.
He was a WWII veteran and an active member of the local VFW and AMVETS organizations. LeRoy was a member of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Fire Department for 65 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Weinman of Albany; three brothers, Allan VanSchaick of Wynantskill, Eugene VanSchaick of Waitsfield, VT, and Leland VanSchaick of Graham, NC; and a granddaughter, Jessica Mucilli of Ballston Spa.
He was predeceased by 4 brothers, Edison, Herbert, Wayne, and Donald Arthur (Art) VanSchaick.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am Saturday, August 24, at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Internment is private and at a later date.

Gloversville - Bernice Cummings, a longtime resident of Gloversville and previously of Sharon Springs, died Friday, August 9, 2013 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville after a short illness. She was 82.
Born in Woodstock (Ulster County) on January 21, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Johnston and Mildred Rose.
She was a 1949 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and a homemaker her entire life. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and travel.
Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Swartz and Debra Marrone, both of Amsterdam, and Denise Marrone of Gloversville; four sons, Darren Cummings of Hagaman, David Cummings of Florida, Douglas Cummings of Nashville, and Dana Cummings of Dallas; a sister, Janet Peek of Murphy, NC; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Cummings, in June 1997; a son, Dale Cummings, in 1999; and a brother, Mortimer Johnston, in 1978.

Sharon Springs - Patricia Page, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1988 and previously of Buffalo, died Friday, August 09, 2013 at her residence after a long illness. She was 73.
Born in Buffalo on October 21, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John Richardson and Ethel Craplin.
Patricia earned an associates degree in transportation management from Hilbert College in Hamburg, New York. Subsequently, she worked for the transportation department at Lake Shore Central School District, Angola (Erie County), for 19 years. Locally, she was a longtime manager for Stone View Heights in Schoharie.
Lovingly referred to as Pug by family, Patricia enjoyed gardening and caring for her Australian Shepherds, Sheila and Matty; and her two Great Danes, Tess and her multiple award winner and 2011 Eukanuba National Dog Show champion, Isabella.
Survivors include her husband, whom she married December 21, 1990, Herbert Page of Sharon Springs; a son, Timothy Crowley of Buffalo; a daughter, Susan Nichter of Buffalo; two brothers, Clifford Richardson of Kings Mountain, NC, and Charles Richardson of Ellicottville (Cattaraugus County); and a grandson, Matthew Nichter of Buffalo.
Private services and inurnment will be held at later date. Cremation was at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady.

Sharon Springs - Marguerite MacFarlane, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1986 and previously a longtime resident of Englewood, New Jersey, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a short illness. She was 82.
Born in Brooklyn on May 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Frank Stanton and Marguerite McMonagle.
Marguerite was a renowned painter, faux finisher, muralist and decorative artist. Her clients included celebrities such as Steven Spielberg, Eddie Murphy and Diane Sawyer.
In 1974, Marguerite founded the Old Church Cultural Center School of Art in Demarest, NJ. The art school was a former dilapidated Baptist church that Marguerite, with the help of her family, renovated and restored into a functioning arts facility. Subsequently, she became involved with the Isabel O’Neil Studio of Decorative Finishes in Manhattan. While studying at Isabel O’Neil's, Marguerite became a master and then a teacher. Later, she opened an art studio of fine and decorative arts in Englewood.
Most recently, she opened Chartwell Studios in Sharon Springs. The studio handled all aspects of fine and decorative arts, including teaching.
She was a member of the Sharon Springs Historical Society and the Sharon Springs Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include her partner of 45 years, Peter Cozzolino of Sharon Springs; three daughters, Maggie (Mark) DeStefano of Manhattan, Jan MacFarlane of Manhattan, and Suzie MacFarlane of Hackensack, NJ; two sons, Mac MacFarlane of Clayton (Jefferson County) and Pete (Dina) MacFarlane of Dorset, VT; two sisters, Dorothy MacKenzie of Rochdale, MA and M.J. Karmi of Los Angeles, CA; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Frankie Stanton, in June 1967.
Aside from all the things she accomplished, she was most proud of her children.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. Rita’s hobbies included painting, gardening, and doing odd jobs around the house.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Tobin; a son, Daniel Tobin of Sharon Springs; two daughters, Patricia Ann Gonzalez of Manhattan and Christine Gonzalez of Sharon Springs; two brothers, William and Lawrence Driscoll; a sister, Una Marie Driscoll; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Ames - Richard E. Wilday Sr., a longtime resident of Ames and previously of Sharon Springs, died suddenly Friday, April 19, 2013 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital. He was 69.
Born in Gloversville on September 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Olin and Ella (Moak) Wilday.
He was a 1963 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School. Richard owned and operated a dairy farm in Ames for thirty years. For many years he worked outside of the farm at Ralston Purina in Cobleskill and at Sharon Springs Garage. Dick never retired and he was working this past week for the Town of Seward Highway Department and just last month he was elected Mayor of Ames.
Dick was active in the Ames Volunteer Fire Department for forty-five years and he was a longtime member of the Ames-Sprout Brook United Methodist Church. Prior to being elected mayor last month, he had served on the Ames village board.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married September 5, 1964, Kay (Scott) Wilday; three daughters, Amy Wilday of Sprakers, Melanie (John) Wilday of Sharon Springs, and Stephanie (John) Palmatier of Carlisle; a son, Rick (Tammy) Wilday of Colonie; three sisters, Janet Gorton and Elaine Davenport of Cobleskill, and Doris Clancy of Canajoharie; and four grandchildren, Leandra, Tiara, Ian, and Ireland.
He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Martinez in 1966.

Sharon Springs- Kevin W. Kennedy, a lifelong resident of Sharon Springs, died suddenly Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital after being stricken at home. He was 57.
Born in Schenectady on December 2, 1955, Kevin was the son of Kenneth Kennedy and the late Christina Effner.
Kevin was a longtime highway maintenance employee and driver for the New York State Department of Transportation, primarily working out of the Sharon Springs and Cobleskill barracks. Most recently, he owned and operated KNK Landscaping with his son.
Some recreational activities he enjoyed were trapshooting, hunting, archery, and fishing. Also, Kevin was an active member in numerous local rod and gun clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Karen (Salisbury) Kennedy; a son, Kenneth Kennedy of Sharon Springs; a daughter, Peggy Duncan of Sharon Springs, his father, Kenneth Kennedy of Superior, MT; two brothers, Vernon Kennedy of Sharon Springs, and Mitchell Kennedy of Deer Lodge, MT; a sister, Kim Sawyer of Richmondville; and six grandchildren, Kayla Black, Kevin Duncan, and Kadence, Kirsten, Kristina and KJ Kennedy.

Sharon Springs- Gerard Saccardi, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1970 and previously of New Hyde Park (Nassau County), died suddenly Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his residence. He was 81.
Born in Brooklyn on January 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Thomas Saccardi and Anita Rich.
Mr. Saccardi was a longtime salesman for Montgomery Wards, retiring in 1996. Previously, he was a mail carrier for the post office in Flushing, NY. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the American Legion Post #1269 in Sharon Springs.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Albina Saccardi; four daughters, Donna Olsen of Washington DC, Barbara Saccardi of Houston, TX, Christina Haws of Rotterdam, and Andrea Burns of Silver Springs Shores, FL.; a brother, Thomas Saccardi of Deer Park (Suffolk County); a sister, Rose Brienza; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Saccardi, in 1990.

Saturday, December 29, 2012 at his residence after a long illness. He was 40.
Born in Cobleskill on October 9, 1972, he was the son of Doris Eskedal and the
late Harley Warner.
Kenneth graduated from Sharon Springs Central School and attended SUNY Delhi. He was a self-employed automotive mechanic in the Sharon Springs area, retiring 10 months ago due to illness.
Survivors include his mother, Doris Warner of Sharon Springs; six brothers, Sheldon, Roger, Dale, Larry, Jerry, and Eric Warner; and two sisters, Sue Edwards and Linn Schondra. He was predeceased by a brother, Harris Warner, in February 2007; and his father, Harley Warner, in August 1991.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, at St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church, 138 Washington Avenue, Cobleskill. Pastor Ray Richards of Calvary Assembly of God will be officiating at the service. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Celia Schondra, 88, formerly of Sharon Springs and most recently of Upper Providence
Township, PA, died after a brief illness on Monday, November 19, 2012 at Seasons
Hospice at Phoenixville Hospital, Phoenixville, PA.
Born in Jefferson, NY on July 15, 1924, Celia was the daughter of the late Ford and
Margaret (Kling) Gray. She was a 1941 graduate of Richmondville High School where she was valedictorian, and she earned an Associate Degree from the State University of New York at Cobleskill.
Mrs. Schondra was the administrative secretary at Sharon Springs Central School from 1960 to 1979. In addition, she and her husband owned and operated a family dairy farm in Sharon Springs for nearly 40 years.
Mrs. Schondra was a member of the former St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Sharon Springs, as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Fire Department. She was an avid gardener, loved to cook and bake, and always enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Mrs. Schondra was a longtime member of the ladies bowling league at the former Sharon Lanes. During retirement, she and her husband enjoyed extensive travel throughout the US. They moved to Pennsylvania in 2002.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Daniel Schondra; two sons, Larry Schondra of Collegeville, PA and Paul Schondra of Hackettstown, NJ; a brother, Arnold Gray of Pittsford, NY; six grandchildren, Amy Lumpkin, Jason Schondra, Kristen Schondra- Anthony, Matthew Schondra, Daniel Schondra, and Kendra Morehead; and nine great- grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Gray.

Born in Cherry Valley on January 23, 1926, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Marvin and Laura (Lane) Cummings.
Elizabeth was a 1945 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School. For thirty years, she was a seamstress for Canajoharie Manufacturing. She also worked for Beech- Nut Nutrition Corporation; the former Maples Adult Home in Sharon Springs and Kling Farms.
She was a longtime member of the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Tyler and her companion Ronald Carter, of Palatine Bridge; four sons, James Tyler of Center Square, Robert (Bonnie) Tyler of Sharon Springs, Richard Tyler of Gulfport, MS, and Roland (Jean) Tyler Jr. of Virgil (Cortland County); a brother, Francis Cummings of Schenectady; a sister, Bernice
Garth of Mason City, IA; fourteen grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
She married Roland R. Tyler Sr. on June 30, 1951. He died January 20, 1970.

Born in Danbury, CT on January 10, 1938, Dick was the son of the late John and Katherine (McNulty) Farrell.
Dick owned and operated West Creek Dairy Farm in the town for 32 years. He retired and sold the farm in 2002.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Theresa (Murphy) Farrell; four daughters, Debora (Gregg) Starring of Palatine Bridge, Lisa (Jesse) Wright of Schoharie, Laura (Gary) Stringer of Sharon Springs, and Jamie (Ronald) Hunt of East Worcester; a sister, Jacolyn White of Juno, Alaska; thirteen grandchildren; and six great
grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Richard Farrell Jr in September 1959; a daughter, Donna Marie Vrooman in December 1999; and a sister, Sheila Farrell in November 2010.

Sharon Springs- Benjamin Nolette, a longtime resident of the town of Sharon, died
peacefully Sunday August 26, 2012 at his residence with his family by his side. He was 63.
Born April 18, 1949 in Bombay, NY (Franklin County), he was the son of the late Frank and Molly (Keyser) Nolette.
Benny served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic. He completed back-to- back tours in South Vietnam in 1968 and 1969 and was awarded a Bronze Star. He lived most of his life in Sharon Springs and worked throughout the area as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in July 2011 from Delaney Construction in Mayfield.
He spent his life committed to his family and was especially devoted to his
grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Dianna (Miller) Nolette, whom he married November 28, 1970; a son, Benjamin P. Nolette Jr. of Ray City, GA; a daughter, Molly (Scott) Roosevelt of Sharon Springs; three brothers, Curtis, Joseph and Andrew Nolette; three sisters, Linda Stephens, Brenda Perrotti, and Denise Sawyer; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Nolette in May 2004; and a sister, Anna Marie Nolette in September 2005.

Fannie was born in Sharon Springs on December 4, 1926, the daughter of the late Marvin and Laura (Lane) Cummings.
She was a 1944 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and a longtime machine screen print operator at the former LaSalle Labs in Canajoharie, retiring in 1996.
She was married October 2, 1948 to Calvin Jones. He died in 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce (Susan) Jones of Fort Plain and Wayne (Judy) Jones of Little Falls; a daughter, Joanne (Robert) Patrei of Fort Plain; a brother, Francis Cummings of Schenectady; two sisters, Elizabeth Tyler of Sharon Springs and Bernice Garth of Mason City, IA; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Carole Jones, in 1998; and three siblings, Walter, Robert, and Ruby Cummings.

Dale was born April 30, 1931 in Fulton, the son of the late John and Alice (Mac Neil)
Bouck.
After graduating from Middleburgh Central School in 1949, Dale operated the family dairy farm for many years. Subsequently, he leased his dairy barn and farm land to the neighboring Barber’s Farm and he began to work for Barber’s primarily as a herdsman. Dale was adept at farm work in many capacities and in Dale’s quiet way he became “the secret weapon” at Barber’s Farm. He had an understanding of horticulture and this skill was critical in the development of the Barber’s greenhouse operation. He stopped working only a few short weeks ago due to illness.
Dale was a founding charter member of the Middleburgh-Schoharie Valley Lions Club
and was active in the club until March this year. Also, he was a life member of the
Schoharie County Historical Society.
Dale would always lend a hand to his friends and family. He just had a sense when
someone needed help and he quietly would be there. It was his gift to all.
Survivors include a niece, Maggie Bouck of Sharon Springs; two nephews, Bill Bouck
of Deerfield Beach, FL and John Bouck of Tupper Lake; close friends, Vera Shaul, Ronald Gage, and Jim and Cindy Barber; and his extended farm family.
He was predeceased by a brother, John W. Bouck, in February 2004.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am -12:00pm Saturday, June 16, at Dale’s residence, 3611 State Route 30, Fulton. A graveside service will follow in Middleburgh Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment back at the residence.

Gabrielle Sabler
Cherry Valley- Gabrielle Sabler, a resident of Cherry Valley and a student at SUNY Cobleskill, died accidentally April 2, 2015 at her residence. She was 20.
Born in Staten Island on July 12, 1994, she was the daughter of Frank and Doris (Bialt) Sabler.
Gabrielle was a 2012 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and was currently enrolled in the computer information systems curriculum at SUNY Cobleskill. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Cherry Valley. Her best friend, Ashley, with whom she did everything, was also lost in the fire.
Survivors besides her parents include three brothers, Frank, Benjamin, and Alexander; two sisters, Elizabeth and Christine; a maternal grandmother, Jeanne Lagasse; two aunts, Jeannine and Celina Bialt; and four uncles, Bernard, Marcel and Alfred Bialt and Steven Sabler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Friday April 10, at the First Presbyterian Church, Alden Street, Cherry Valley, Father John Roos will preside. Cherry Valley- Anthony Sabler, a resident of Cherry Valley and an eighth grade student at Sharon Springs Central School, died accidentally April 2, 2015 at his residence. He was 13.
Born in Staten Island on October 6, 2001, he was the son of Frank and Doris (Bialt) Sabler.
Anthony was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Cherry Valley. He enjoyed spending time with his friends playing video games, soccer, basketball, and volunteering at the church. His father and he were best friends and they did everything together. Anthony was very close to Aunt Jeannine, she was his favorite.
Survivors besides his parents include three brothers, Frank, Benjamin, and Alexander; two sisters, Elizabeth and Christine; a maternal grandmother, Jeanne Lagasse; two aunts, Celina and Jeannine Bialt; and four uncles, Bernard, Marcel, and Alfred Bialt and Steven Sabler.

Roberta J. Adair
Sharon Springs- Roberta J. Adair, a longtime resident of Sharon Springs and most recently of the St. Johnsville Nursing Center since October 2014, died March 9, 2015 at the center after a long illness. She was 64.
Born in Cooperstown on September 20, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Robert Hotaling and Jeanne De Braccio.
She was a 1968 graduate of Shenendehowa Central School and a longtime legal secretary for attorney James Bryant in Schoharie, retiring due to illness.
Survivors include her husband of nineteen years, Richard Adair; three sons; Laverne Winnie Jr. of Remsen, Jason Winnie of McKinney, TX and Zack Winnie of Cobleskill; two daughters, Rebecca Bombardier of Cobleskill and Kristal Masse of Sharon Springs; two sisters, Carmella Varnum and Suzanne Palmatier, both of Middleburgh; and ten grandchildren.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in Sharon Cemetery.

Duane Willoughby
Florida-Duane Willoughby, a longtime resident of Pattersonville Road in the town of Florida and previously of Sharon Springs, died Sunday January 18, 2015 at his residence. He was 55.
Duane was born January 9, 1960 and was the son of the late Philip Willoughby and Muriel Beroff.
He was a graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and a longtime employee
for Host Marriot Services Corporation in Pattersonville; retiring a while ago due to illness.
Survivors include two sons; Duane Willoughby Jr. of Sharon Springs and Craig Miller of Sprakers; a daughter, Cari Hattat of Fonda; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 31, at Lappeus Funeral Home, 113 Park Street, Sharon Springs.
Margaret C. Doig
Sharon Springs-Margaret C. Doig, a resident of the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady since 2012 and previously of Sharon Springs, died Monday December 29, 2014 at the center. She was 90.
Born in Burlington, Vermont on June 3, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Burnham Colby and Lila Townsend.
Peg graduated from the former Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady and then earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Skidmore College. She would later earn a master’s degree from SUNY Oneonta. Peg was a longtime music teacher in both the Sharon Springs Central School district and in the Cherry Valley Central School district, retiring in 1981. While at Sharon Springs, she was active in the booster club and enjoyed attending all the sporting events at the school.
Peg was a member of the United Methodist Church and was involved with the United Methodist Women and served as choir director at the church for 54 years. Additionally, she served as den mother for the local cub scouts - Troop 17; was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #1269 and she gave private piano lessons.
Survivors include two sons; James (Rita) Doig of Norwich, and Robert (Diane) Doig of Ballston Spa; and three grandsons, Alexander Doig of Teaneck, NJ, Scott Doig of Watervliet, and Dustin Budge of Albany.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Al Doig in 2006, and her brother, Robert Colby.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway Community for the years of care provided to Peg.
A service will be held 10:30am Saturday at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Memory’s Gardens, Colonie. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Friday at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs.

Betty Ryder
Sharon Springs-Betty Ryder, who lived most of her life in Sharon Springs, died Wednesday November 5, 2014 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Center. She was 89.
Born in Carlisle on May 14, 1925, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy Mackey and Iva Briggs.
She worked as a licensed practical nurse in the Amsterdam area for many years. Then in 1970, she converted her residence in Sharon Springs into the Maples Adult Home, now known as Marchand Manor. She owned and operated the Maples until retiring in 1990.
In 1995, she relocated to Summerfield, Florida (Ocala Metro), but returned to Sharon Springs in 2009 and then to the nursing center in 2011.
Betty was an original member of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad and she answered and dispatched calls both for the rescue squad and the fire department from an office inside her business. Also, she was a longtime member of Rebekah Lodge #850.
Survivors include a son, William Barbic of Sharon Springs; two daughters, Alice Barbic of Henry, Indiana, and Joanne Duncan of Lady Lake, FL; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alton Ryder, in February 1979.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am Monday, November 10, at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs. Visitation will be 10:00-11:00am prior to the service. Inurnment will follow in the Old Stone Fort Cemetery, Schoharie.

Rita Mary Christman, 81, entered into her eternal journey of peace on Tuesday October 21, 2014, at home in the arms of her children. Rita was born on October 26, 1932 in Cooperstown, the daughter of the late Clifford M. Crapser and Norma K. Jansson. She resided most of her life in Schoharie County on the family farm in Gardnersville.
After graduating from Cobleskill Central High School in 1950, she received her registered nurse diploma in 1953 from Union University School of Nursing in Albany. Later, she continued her education at SUNY Oneonta and in 1972 received her primary care nurse practitioner certificate from Albany Medical College. Her professional nursing career started in private duty nursing and at Visiting Nurse Association of Albany. For ten years, she worked at Cobleskill Central High School both as a school nurse and as an advisor to the Future Nurses Club. Rita then joined the former Cobleskill Medical Group, first as a registered nurse and later as a primary care nurse practitioner. She retired from Bassett Healthcare in Cobleskill in 1996 after a long career of providing care to thousands of pediatric and adult patients in the community.
In retirement, Rita continued her father's interest in genealogy. She spent many days researching her own extended family and other Schoharie County families. Rita would visit cemeteries all over the county in order to reconstruct, record and verify genealogical lines. Also, she served as town of Seward co-historian for several years and was an active library research volunteer at the Old Stone Fort in Schoharie. Rita enjoyed time with research colleagues and visitors who shared her passion for history and family lineage. Rita loved farming, knitting, gardening, picking berries and she was known for baking delicious pies.
Survivors include four sons, Clifford Sr. (Brooke) of Tioga, PA; Gustave Jr. (Debi) of Carlisle, and Mark Sr. (Susan) and Carl (Lynae), both of Gardnersville; a daughter, Juliet (William) Cook of Spring City, PA; eleven grandchildren, whom she devoted her love and life to, Clifford Jr., Gavin, Gustave III (Allison), Ashley, Mark Jr., Kali, John, Levi, Roger, Katherina (Clayton) Cook Brewer and Elissa Cook; and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Gustave Christman Sr., in May 2005.
A private family service and internment will be held at Slate Hill Cemetery, town of Sharon.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all those who cared for her at M.I. Bassett Hospital Cancer Center and Catskill Area Hospice.

Howard Gordon “Gus” Osterhoudt passed away unexpectedly at MI Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown on August 20th, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.
Howard was born on April 8, 1926, son of Mary Catherine Hopkins Osterhoudt and Maurice Osterhoudt of Cooperstown, NY.
Howard left high school early to join his four brothers in fighting for their country with the Army-Air Corps. When he returned to Cooperstown High School to complete his studies, he met his future wife, Nola E. Wedderspoon. They both attended N.Y.S. Institute of Agriculture (now SUNY Cobleskill), where Howard studied animal husbandry. They were married on May 3, 1952, and returned to military life with the Air Force stationed in San Antonio, Texas during the Korean Conflict.
After leaving the military, Howard attended the Television Workshop of New York, where he trained to work as a cameraman in TV and film. As a student, he earned a special commendation for outstanding and distinguished achievement. Howard and Nola settled in Sharon Springs in 1955. He worked for the Village Department of Public Works for 3 years. He was then hired by the US Post Office, where he worked for over 31 years. After retiring from the Post Office, he was hired by Sharon Springs Central School as a bus driver for 10 years. He also was in charge of maintenance of the Central National Bank in Sharon Springs for many years, and later of the Town Court. He was also a handyman for various businesses and Sharon Springs residents for many years.
Howard was active in many local organizations and his church. He was an active member of the Sharon Springs Fire Department for 20 years, President of the Sharon Springs Free Library for 20 years, and an active member of the Sharon Springs American Legion Post for 25 years, serving as Commander for a time. He also served as the President of the Board of Trustees and was a member of the Executive Council for the United Methodist Church, as well as a member of the Sons of Cooperstown organization.
Howard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nola E. Wedderspoon Osterhoudt. He is also survived by their five children: Donna (Bill) Barlow of Sharon Springs; Carol (Guy) Tucker of Bolton, MA; Nadine (Craig) Juliano of Bozeman, MT; Kyle (Thi) Osterhoudt of Honolulu, HI; and Leah (Terrence) Byrons of Washingtonville, NY. His nine surviving grandchildren include Rebecca Barlow Love, Jason Barlow, Reed and Clarissa Tucker, Nicole and Nathan Juliano, and Liam, Case, and Kian Byrons. Two surviving great-grandchildren include Madelyn and Jordan Barlow. He is loved and cherished by each one. He is also survived by one brother, Homer Osterhoudt of Cooperstown.
Howard is predeceased by his brothers Ralph Osterhoudt of Richfield Springs, NY; John Osterhoudt of Westfield, NY; and Lincoln Osterhoudt, who was killed in action in WWI; and his sisters Helen Osterhoudt Baxter of Sharon Springs, NY; and Louise Osterhoudt. He is also predeceased by a granddaughter, Jessica Barlow, of Sharon Springs, NY.

Richard W. Atkinson
Sharon Springs - Richard W. Atkinson, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1973 and previously of Manhattan, died Monday August 18, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a brief illness. He was 84.
Richard was a 1958 graduate of Westchester Community College. He went on to work as a mechanic for Town and Country Equipment in New Jersey for many years before coming to Sharon Springs. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert Hughes of Watertown, CT. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Hughes in 2006 and Dorothy Flohr in 1992; and a brother, William Atkinson.
Cremation was at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady. A private graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date in Sharon Cemetery.

Laila Olsen
Sharon Springs- Laila Olsen, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1960 and most recently of the Palatine Nursing Home since January 2013, died Saturday August 9, 2014 at the home.
Born in Fredrikstad, Norway on March 30, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Carl Schwartz and Astrid Andreasen.
Laila graduated from Flushing High School in 1938 and was married to Henning Olsen in 1943. She lived in Suffolk County prior to coming to Sharon Springs in 1960. She had been a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Chapel since 1960.
Survivors include seven sons, Daniel Olsen of Wash, DC; Andy Olsen and John Olsen, both of Sharon Springs, Harry Olsen of Harlam, GA, Roy Olsen of Buffalo, and James Olsen of Melbourne, FL; two daughters, Susan Herman of Port St. John, FL and Gale Olsen of Santa Fe, NM; a sister, Eleanor Kingsley of Smithtown, nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henning, in 1983, and a son, Joe, in 1991.
A service will be held 11:00am Thursday, August 14, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Chapel. Burial will follow in Sharon Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Wednesday at Lappeus Funeral Home, Sharon Springs.

Canajoharie- Joseph Smith Jr., passed away at birth on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown. Survivors include his parents; Felicia Moak and Joseph Smith of Canajoharie; three sisters, Ashley and Sylenah Smith and Jaivah Seelow; maternal grandmother, Sarah Moak of Canajoharie; paternal grandparents, Charmaine Smith of Canajoharie and Ronald Smith of Frankfort; three uncles, Kevin Moshier of Schenectady, Ronald Smith of Canajoharie and Matthew Smith of Mohawk; two aunts, Sierra Vosburgh and Bianca Gee, both of Canajoharie; and several cousins.

Viola O’Shell
Ebensburg - Viola O’Shell, 94, formerly of Altoona, St. Augustine and Sharon Springs, NY passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Center in St. Johnsville NY, where she had been a resident since April 2012.
She was born in N. White Plains, NY on November 10, 1919, the daughter of the late John and Marie (Erenholtz) Strilowich.
She was a longtime bookkeeper for various medical offices in the White Plains, NY area.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Kevin P. O’Shell of Sharon Springs, NY.
She was predeceased by her husband, Regis J. O’Shell, on April 29, 1991.

Paul Larkin
Sharon Springs- Paul Larkin, a lifelong resident of Sharon Springs, died suddenly Friday, June 20, 2014 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital. He was 59.
Born in Cooperstown on October 23, 1954, he was the son of Edwin W. Larkin and the late Virginia (Haner) Larkin.
Paul was a 1972 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and he earned an associates degree in agricultural business in 1974 from SUNY Cobleskill.
He owned and operated Larkindale Holsteins in Sharon Springs for 31 years. The business was sold in July 2013.
Paul served the town of Sharon on both the town board and the board of assessment review and he was a member of the Schoharie County Holstein association and the county planning commission. Also, he served several terms on the Sharon Springs Central School board of education.
Survivors include his wife Patricia (Keller) Larkin; a son, Lucas Larkin of Sharon Springs; a daughter, Trisha Larkin of Greenville, NC; his father, Edwin; and step-mother, Mary Ann Larkin of Sharon Springs; two sisters, Valerie Becker and Melanie Ray, both of Cobleskill; two brothers, Shane Larkin of Mechanicville and Glenn Larkin of Canajoharie; and a granddaughter, Avery Patricia Bailey of Greenville, NC.
He was predeceased by a sister, Diana Larkin, on March 21, 1979; and his mother, Virginia, on July 9, 1979.

Walter Loveridge
Sharon Springs - Walter Loveridge, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1986 and previously of East Greenbush, died Sunday April 20, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a long illness. He was 75.
Born in Albany on June 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Charles Loveridge and Ruth Hogle.
Walter graduated in 1960 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, with a bachelor in engineering degree. Early on, he worked for Bausch and Lomb in Rochester and then New York State Water Resources. Water Resources was absorbed into the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation in the late 1960’s and Walt remained there until retiring in 1995. Primarily, he worked in the industrial pollution division, first in Rensselaer, then Schenectady, and finally retiring out of the Stamford office.
He also owned and operated a 200 head dairy farm in Sharon Springs, was a mechanic at the former Clinton Avenue Garage in Albany, and he raced stock cars at Lebanon Valley.
Survivors include his wife, Terry (Luther) Loveridge of Sharon Springs; a son, Daniel Loveridge of Clinton; two step-sons; Theodore O’Bryan of Leonardsville (Madison County) and Sean Michael O’Bryan of Wynantskill; a step-daughter, Laura Kellar of Rotterdam; and four grandchildren.
A service will be held 11:00am Thursday, April 24, at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 10:00 - 11 am at the church prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Garrison Cemetery, Harrisville (St. Lawrence County).

Zosia Simmons
Zosia Simmons, a resident of Seward since 1984 and previously of Queens, died suddenly Monday, April 14, 2014 at her residence. She was 85.
Born in Brooklyn on September 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John Maslowski and Valeria Majkszak.
She did secretarial and billing duties for both Pfizer pharmaceutical in Brooklyn and Key Appliance in Amityville before retiring and relocating to Schoharie County.
Zosia loved animals and she even adopted a dog, Annie, from the show Pet Connection on ABC News10. One of her cats, Greyson, who she rescued on a cold winter night a few years ago, was with her when she passed.
Survivors include a daughter, Crystal (Chris) Stone-Rowson of Seward; a son, John Simmons of Glenville; a brother, Walter Maslowski of Staten Island; five grandchildren; and a great granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Simmons, in September 2009; and a son, Michael Simmons in 1976.
Services and inurnment are private and at the convenience of the family. Cremation was at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady.

Richard C. Winslow
Richard C. Winslow, a resident of Cherry Valley since 1998 and previously of New Rochelle (Westchester County) died Monday, March 10, 2014 at his residence after a long illness. He was 67.
Born in New York City on June 5, 1946, he was the son of the late Charles and Ella (Mohrman) Winslow. He attended school both in New York City and Pelham before graduating from Pelham Memorial High School in 1965.
Mr. Winslow was self-employed for many years in the moving and storage business primarily in Westchester County and New York City. While in Cherry Valley, he worked briefly at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Sharon Springs, retiring in 2000 due to illness.
He was an avid hunter and a longtime member of the Sharon Hunt Club. Also, he loved both deep sea fishing and fishing on Long Island Sound whenever he could. Additionally, Richard was a member of the AF&AM Tuckahoe Masonic Lodge #347 and a US Navy veteran.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ellen, in 2012.

Sharon Springs- Della Salisbury, a longtime resident of Sharon Springs and most recently of Sprakers, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a brief illness. She was 76.
Born in Cobleskill on October 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Warren Roe and Merian Sweet.
Della was a 1957 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and a longtime member of the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. She was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Kennedy and Laurie Scudder, both of Sharon Springs, and Tina Walker of Beacon Falls, CT.; two sons, Morris Salisbury and Lester Higgins, both of Sharon Springs; two sisters, Rose Puglese of Schenectady and Sharon Carmichael of Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Morris Salisbury, in 1973; a daughter, Kimberly Salisbury, in 1965; five brothers, Howard, Eri, Lawrence, Clyde and Claude Roe; and two sisters, Elizabeth Tomlinson and Stella Edwards.

Sharon Springs - Frank Saum, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1975 and previously of Brooklyn, died Friday, October 18, 2013 at his residence after a long illness. He was 86.
Born in Brooklyn on June 9, 1927, he was the son the late Frank Saum Sr. and Elizabeth Vaughan.
Frank was a longtime New York State tax agent working out of the Harriman Campus in Albany, retiring in 1989. He was a WWII veteran and during a reenlistment was a military police officer at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Sigrund Saum of Sharon Springs; a son, Steven Saum of Staten Island; a daughter, Debra Prezioso of Arizona and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Frank Saum III; and a sister, Elizabeth Randolph.
Private services and inurnment in the columbarium wall at the Gerald B.H.Solomon – Saratoga National Cemetery will be held at a later date. Cremation was at Vale Cemetery Crematorium, Schenectady.

Sharon Springs - LeRoy VanSchaick, a lifelong resident of Sharon Springs, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at Cobleskill Regional Hospital after a short illness. He was 85.
Born in Sharon Springs on December 20, 1927, LeRoy was the son of the late Donald VanSchaick and Gladys Coleman.
LeRoy was a produce manager for 33 years at the former A and P Supermarkets in Cherry Valley and Cobleskill, retiring in 1981. Subsequently, he worked for Lappeus Funeral Home, the former Lynk’s Service Station and the former Pioneer Productions, all in Sharon Springs.
He was a WWII veteran and an active member of the local VFW and AMVETS organizations. LeRoy was a member of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Fire Department for 65 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Weinman of Albany; three brothers, Allan VanSchaick of Wynantskill, Eugene VanSchaick of Waitsfield, VT, and Leland VanSchaick of Graham, NC; and a granddaughter, Jessica Mucilli of Ballston Spa.
He was predeceased by 4 brothers, Edison, Herbert, Wayne, and Donald Arthur (Art) VanSchaick.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am Saturday, August 24, at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Internment is private and at a later date.

Gloversville - Bernice Cummings, a longtime resident of Gloversville and previously of Sharon Springs, died Friday, August 9, 2013 at Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville after a short illness. She was 82.
Born in Woodstock (Ulster County) on January 21, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Johnston and Mildred Rose.
She was a 1949 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and a homemaker her entire life. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and travel.
Survivors include three daughters, Darlene Swartz and Debra Marrone, both of Amsterdam, and Denise Marrone of Gloversville; four sons, Darren Cummings of Hagaman, David Cummings of Florida, Douglas Cummings of Nashville, and Dana Cummings of Dallas; a sister, Janet Peek of Murphy, NC; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Cummings, in June 1997; a son, Dale Cummings, in 1999; and a brother, Mortimer Johnston, in 1978.

Sharon Springs - Patricia Page, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1988 and previously of Buffalo, died Friday, August 09, 2013 at her residence after a long illness. She was 73.
Born in Buffalo on October 21, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John Richardson and Ethel Craplin.
Patricia earned an associates degree in transportation management from Hilbert College in Hamburg, New York. Subsequently, she worked for the transportation department at Lake Shore Central School District, Angola (Erie County), for 19 years. Locally, she was a longtime manager for Stone View Heights in Schoharie.
Lovingly referred to as Pug by family, Patricia enjoyed gardening and caring for her Australian Shepherds, Sheila and Matty; and her two Great Danes, Tess and her multiple award winner and 2011 Eukanuba National Dog Show champion, Isabella.
Survivors include her husband, whom she married December 21, 1990, Herbert Page of Sharon Springs; a son, Timothy Crowley of Buffalo; a daughter, Susan Nichter of Buffalo; two brothers, Clifford Richardson of Kings Mountain, NC, and Charles Richardson of Ellicottville (Cattaraugus County); and a grandson, Matthew Nichter of Buffalo.

Sharon Springs - Marguerite MacFarlane, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1986 and previously a longtime resident of Englewood, New Jersey, died Friday, July 26, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a short illness. She was 82.
Born in Brooklyn on May 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Frank Stanton and Marguerite McMonagle.
Marguerite was a renowned painter, faux finisher, muralist and decorative artist. Her clients included celebrities such as Steven Spielberg, Eddie Murphy and Diane Sawyer.
In 1974, Marguerite founded the Old Church Cultural Center School of Art in Demarest, NJ. The art school was a former dilapidated Baptist church that Marguerite, with the help of her family, renovated and restored into a functioning arts facility. Subsequently, she became involved with the Isabel O’Neil Studio of Decorative Finishes in Manhattan. While studying at Isabel O’Neil's, Marguerite became a master and then a teacher. Later, she opened an art studio of fine and decorative arts in Englewood.
Most recently, she opened Chartwell Studios in Sharon Springs. The studio handled all aspects of fine and decorative arts, including teaching.
She was a member of the Sharon Springs Historical Society and the Sharon Springs Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include her partner of 45 years, Peter Cozzolino of Sharon Springs; three daughters, Maggie (Mark) DeStefano of Manhattan, Jan MacFarlane of Manhattan, and Suzie MacFarlane of Hackensack, NJ; two sons, Mac MacFarlane of Clayton (Jefferson County) and Pete (Dina) MacFarlane of Dorset, VT; two sisters, Dorothy MacKenzie of Rochdale, MA and M.J. Karmi of Los Angeles, CA; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Frankie Stanton, in June 1967.
Aside from all the things she accomplished, she was most proud of her children.

Born in England on December 11, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Royal Benwy and Marie O’Loughlin.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family. Rita’s hobbies included painting, gardening, and doing odd jobs around the house.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Tobin; a son, Daniel Tobin of Sharon Springs; two daughters, Patricia Ann Gonzalez of Manhattan and Christine Gonzalez of Sharon Springs; two brothers, William and Lawrence Driscoll; a sister, Una Marie Driscoll; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Ames - Richard E. Wilday Sr., a longtime resident of Ames and previously of Sharon Springs, died suddenly Friday, April 19, 2013 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital. He was 69.
Born in Gloversville on September 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Olin and Ella (Moak) Wilday.
He was a 1963 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School. Richard owned and operated a dairy farm in Ames for thirty years. For many years he worked outside of the farm at Ralston Purina in Cobleskill and at Sharon Springs Garage. Dick never retired and he was working this past week for the Town of Seward Highway Department and just last month he was elected Mayor of Ames.
Dick was active in the Ames Volunteer Fire Department for forty-five years and he was a longtime member of the Ames-Sprout Brook United Methodist Church. Prior to being elected mayor last month, he had served on the Ames village board.
Survivors include his wife, whom he married September 5, 1964, Kay (Scott) Wilday; three daughters, Amy Wilday of Sprakers, Melanie (John) Wilday of Sharon Springs, and Stephanie (John) Palmatier of Carlisle; a son, Rick (Tammy) Wilday of Colonie; three sisters, Janet Gorton and Elaine Davenport of Cobleskill, and Doris Clancy of Canajoharie; and four grandchildren, Leandra, Tiara, Ian, and Ireland.
He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Martinez in 1966.

Sharon Springs- Kevin W. Kennedy, a lifelong resident of Sharon Springs, died suddenly Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital after being stricken at home. He was 57.
Born in Schenectady on December 2, 1955, Kevin was the son of Kenneth Kennedy and the late Christina Effner.
Kevin was a longtime highway maintenance employee and driver for the New York State Department of Transportation, primarily working out of the Sharon Springs and Cobleskill barracks. Most recently, he owned and operated KNK Landscaping with his son.
Some recreational activities he enjoyed were trapshooting, hunting, archery, and fishing. Also, Kevin was an active member in numerous local rod and gun clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Karen (Salisbury) Kennedy; a son, Kenneth Kennedy of Sharon Springs; a daughter, Peggy Duncan of Sharon Springs, his father, Kenneth Kennedy of Superior, MT; two brothers, Vernon Kennedy of Sharon Springs, and Mitchell Kennedy of Deer Lodge, MT; a sister, Kim Sawyer of Richmondville; and six grandchildren, Kayla Black, Kevin Duncan, and Kadence, Kirsten, Kristina and KJ Kennedy.

Sharon Springs- Gerard Saccardi, a resident of Sharon Springs since 1970 and previously of New Hyde Park (Nassau County), died suddenly Thursday, January 3, 2013 at his residence. He was 81.
Born in Brooklyn on January 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Thomas Saccardi and Anita Rich.
Mr. Saccardi was a longtime salesman for Montgomery Wards, retiring in 1996. Previously, he was a mail carrier for the post office in Flushing, NY. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of the American Legion Post #1269 in Sharon Springs.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Albina Saccardi; four daughters, Donna Olsen of Washington DC, Barbara Saccardi of Houston, TX, Christina Haws of Rotterdam, and Andrea Burns of Silver Springs Shores, FL.; a brother, Thomas Saccardi of Deer Park (Suffolk County); a sister, Rose Brienza; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marion Saccardi, in 1990.

Sharon Springs - Kenneth Warner, a lifelong resident of Sharon Springs, died
Saturday, December 29, 2012 at his residence after a long illness. He was 40.
Born in Cobleskill on October 9, 1972, he was the son of Doris Eskedal and the
late Harley Warner.
Kenneth graduated from Sharon Springs Central School and attended SUNY Delhi. He was a self-employed automotive mechanic in the Sharon Springs area, retiring 10 months ago due to illness.
Survivors include his mother, Doris Warner of Sharon Springs; six brothers, Sheldon, Roger, Dale, Larry, Jerry, and Eric Warner; and two sisters, Sue Edwards and Linn Schondra. He was predeceased by a brother, Harris Warner, in February 2007; and his father, Harley Warner, in August 1991.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, at St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church, 138 Washington Avenue, Cobleskill. Pastor Ray Richards of Calvary Assembly of God will be officiating at the service. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Born in the Borough of Queens on June 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Joseph and Martha (Svetak) Jozifek.
alter was a police officer for the Nassau County Police Department for 23 years, retiring from the department in 1979. Prior to his police service, he was a machinist in the Navy during the Korean War from 1952-1956 and he was a longtime member
of the American Legion Post #1269 in Sharon Springs.

Celia Schondra, 88, formerly of Sharon Springs and most recently of Upper Providence
Township, PA, died after a brief illness on Monday, November 19, 2012 at Seasons
Hospice at Phoenixville Hospital, Phoenixville, PA.
Born in Jefferson, NY on July 15, 1924, Celia was the daughter of the late Ford and
Margaret (Kling) Gray. She was a 1941 graduate of Richmondville High School where she was valedictorian, and she earned an Associate Degree from the State University of New York at Cobleskill.
Mrs. Schondra was the administrative secretary at Sharon Springs Central School from 1960 to 1979. In addition, she and her husband owned and operated a family dairy farm in Sharon Springs for nearly 40 years.
Mrs. Schondra was a member of the former St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Sharon Springs, as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Fire Department. She was an avid gardener, loved to cook and bake, and always enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Mrs. Schondra was a longtime member of the ladies bowling league at the former Sharon Lanes. During retirement, she and her husband enjoyed extensive travel throughout the US. They moved to Pennsylvania in 2002.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Daniel Schondra; two sons, Larry Schondra of Collegeville, PA and Paul Schondra of Hackettstown, NJ; a brother, Arnold Gray of Pittsford, NY; six grandchildren, Amy Lumpkin, Jason Schondra, Kristen Schondra- Anthony, Matthew Schondra, Daniel Schondra, and Kendra Morehead; and nine great- grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Gray.

Born in Cherry Valley on January 23, 1926, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Marvin and Laura (Lane) Cummings.
Elizabeth was a 1945 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School. For thirty years, she was a seamstress for Canajoharie Manufacturing. She also worked for Beech- Nut Nutrition Corporation; the former Maples Adult Home in Sharon Springs and Kling Farms.
She was a longtime member of the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Tyler and her companion Ronald Carter, of Palatine Bridge; four sons, James Tyler of Center Square, Robert (Bonnie) Tyler of Sharon Springs, Richard Tyler of Gulfport, MS, and Roland (Jean) Tyler Jr. of Virgil (Cortland County); a brother, Francis Cummings of Schenectady; a sister, Bernice
Garth of Mason City, IA; fourteen grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
She married Roland R. Tyler Sr. on June 30, 1951. He died January 20, 1970.
She was pre-deceased by four brothers, Robert, Walter, Elmer, and Arthur Cummings; and three sisters, Fanny Jones, Ida Mae Cummings, and Ruby Cummings.

Born in Danbury, CT on January 10, 1938, Dick was the son of the late John and Katherine (McNulty) Farrell.
Dick owned and operated West Creek Dairy Farm in the town for 32 years. He retired and sold the farm in 2002.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Theresa (Murphy) Farrell; four daughters, Debora (Gregg) Starring of Palatine Bridge, Lisa (Jesse) Wright of Schoharie, Laura (Gary) Stringer of Sharon Springs, and Jamie (Ronald) Hunt of East Worcester; a sister, Jacolyn White of Juno, Alaska; thirteen grandchildren; and six great
grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Richard Farrell Jr in September 1959; a daughter, Donna Marie Vrooman in December 1999; and a sister, Sheila Farrell in November 2010.

Sharon Springs- Benjamin Nolette, a longtime resident of the town of Sharon, died
peacefully Sunday August 26, 2012 at his residence with his family by his side. He was 63.
Born April 18, 1949 in Bombay, NY (Franklin County), he was the son of the late Frank and Molly (Keyser) Nolette.
Benny served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic. He completed back-to- back tours in South Vietnam in 1968 and 1969 and was awarded a Bronze Star. He lived most of his life in Sharon Springs and worked throughout the area as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in July 2011 from Delaney Construction in Mayfield.
He spent his life committed to his family and was especially devoted to his
grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Dianna (Miller) Nolette, whom he married November 28, 1970; a son, Benjamin P. Nolette Jr. of Ray City, GA; a daughter, Molly (Scott) Roosevelt of Sharon Springs; three brothers, Curtis, Joseph and Andrew Nolette; three sisters, Linda Stephens, Brenda Perrotti, and Denise Sawyer; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Larry Nolette in May 2004; and a sister, Anna Marie Nolette in September 2005.

Sharon Springs-Fannie L. Jones, a resident of the Palatine Nursing Home since 2006 and previously of Fort Plain and Sharon Springs, died Monday, July 30, at the home after a short illness. She was 85.
Fannie was born in Sharon Springs on December 4, 1926, the daughter of the late Marvin and Laura (Lane) Cummings.
She was a 1944 graduate of Sharon Springs Central School and a longtime machine screen print operator at the former LaSalle Labs in Canajoharie, retiring in 1996.
She was married October 2, 1948 to Calvin Jones. He died in 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce (Susan) Jones of Fort Plain and Wayne (Judy) Jones of Little Falls; a daughter, Joanne (Robert) Patrei of Fort Plain; a brother, Francis Cummings of Schenectady; two sisters, Elizabeth Tyler of Sharon Springs and Bernice Garth of Mason City, IA; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Carole Jones, in 1998; and three siblings, Walter, Robert, and Ruby Cummings.
A service will be held 11:00am Thursday, August 2, at the Lappeus Funeral Home, 113 Park Street, Sharon Springs. Visitation will be 9:30-11:00am prior to the service. Burial will follow in Frey’s Bush Cemetery, Minden.

Fulton-Dale C. Bouck, a lifelong resident of the town of Fulton, died Sunday June 10,
2012 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a short illness. He was 81.
Dale was born April 30, 1931 in Fulton, the son of the late John and Alice (Mac Neil)
Bouck.
After graduating from Middleburgh Central School in 1949, Dale operated the family dairy farm for many years. Subsequently, he leased his dairy barn and farm land to the neighboring Barber’s Farm and he began to work for Barber’s primarily as a herdsman. Dale was adept at farm work in many capacities and in Dale’s quiet way he became “the secret weapon” at Barber’s Farm. He had an understanding of horticulture and this skill was critical in the development of the Barber’s greenhouse operation. He stopped working only a few short weeks ago due to illness.
Dale was a founding charter member of the Middleburgh-Schoharie Valley Lions Club
and was active in the club until March this year. Also, he was a life member of the
Schoharie County Historical Society.
Dale would always lend a hand to his friends and family. He just had a sense when
someone needed help and he quietly would be there. It was his gift to all.
Survivors include a niece, Maggie Bouck of Sharon Springs; two nephews, Bill Bouck
of Deerfield Beach, FL and John Bouck of Tupper Lake; close friends, Vera Shaul, Ronald Gage, and Jim and Cindy Barber; and his extended farm family.
He was predeceased by a brother, John W. Bouck, in February 2004.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am -12:00pm Saturday, June 16, at Dale’s residence, 3611 State Route 30, Fulton. A graveside service will follow in Middleburgh Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment back at the residence.
